Voltage Pictures has released the plot and some very early, boozy art for the Marcus Nispel horror film, BACKMASK.
With the art came some new details about the film to be directed by Nispel (FRIDAY THE 13TH, the upcoming CONAN THE BARBARIAN), penned by Kirsten Elms and produced by Steven Schneider (the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY films, INSIDIOUS).
Here's the synopsis they've laid out: "During a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vinyl record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages. Lo and behold, a seemingly malevolent spirit quickly infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to another. Eventually, however, it’s revealed that the spirit in question is actually trying to convey a message… and that the real source of horror isn’t particularly paranormal, but rather something (or someone) much closer to home."
The poster is obviously a nod to Jagermeister, the infamous liquor that seems to go hand-in-hand with deviance and metal. It's way too soon to tell how the film will turn out, but the "record playing backwards" angle is always welcome.
