Jack Messitt’s superior slasher opus MIDNIGHT MOVIE is
coming back this summer in a new “Killer Cut” sporting a number of upgrades.
Messitt got in touch with news on the limited theatrical run and details of the
subsequent DVD.
Scripted by Mark Garbett and Messitt and starring Rebekah Brandes (soon to be seen in Evan Glodell’s genre-blending festival favorite BELLFLOWER), Daniel Bonjour, Greg Cirulnick, Mandell Maughan and Stan Ellsworth, MIDNIGHT MOVIE is set in a small-town theater whose employees decide to play a print of an obscure early-’70s fright flick with a bloody history. That history repeats itself when the movie’s killer emerges from the screen to stalk and slay his audience. “The Killer Cut” offers extended and never-before-seen scenes, plus new, enhanced visual FX. It has its world premiere this Thursday, May 5 at 9:30 p.m. at Westwood, CA’s Majestic Crest Theater (1262 Westwood Boulevard), and will subsequently play Saturday midnight shows at the Crest from May 7-June 11. Tickets for the premiere and midnight screenings can be ordered here.
Bigfoot Entertainment then issues the new special-edition
DVD June 14, though a limited number of advance copies will be available at the
Crest screenings (with a cast and crew signing after the premiere). The disc
will present the movie in 16x9-enhanced widescreen with Dolby 5.1 Surround and
2.0 stereo soundtracks, plus the following extras:
• Audio commentary by Messitt (exclusive to “The Killer Cut”)
• “Destroying the Illusion”: extensive behind-the-scenes documentary (exclusive to “The Killer Cut”)
• Deleted scenes
• Cast featurette
• Crew featurette
• Pick-up day featurette
• VFX featurette
