One of the rare sequels that nearly equals the terror of its predecessor, Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza’s [REC] 2 is getting one thing their previous [REC] did not: U.S. big-screen play, courtesy of Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing, beginning July 9. But it hits theaters in the UK first, on May 28, and you can see a restricted trailer for that release after the jump.

IGN got the first look at this preview for [REC] 2, which picks up right where the original left off and follows a SWAT team, accompanied by a medical officer, into the apartment building inhabited by crazed, bloodthirsty infected people and the notorious “Medeiros girl.” Look for an interview with Balagueró on [REC] 2 in Fango #295, on sale in June.
