Independent horror specialist Richard Griffin (pictured), whose genre features have tended toward the supernatural (PRETTY DEAD THINGS, BEYOND THE DUNWICH HORROR, the upcoming DISCO EXORCIST) or science-fictional (the new ATOMIC BRAIN INVASION) is changing gears a bit for his next Scorpio Film Releasing production, EXHUMED.

Set to roll in May, EXHUMED was written by INVASION’s Guy Benoit and will be produced by Griffin’s longtime partner Ted Marr. The director says, “Have you ever noticed that, unlike other genres, Hollywood seems to think that fans of horror will be satisfied with a litany of sequels and remakes, without an ounce of new or original content? Perhaps that is because we in the independent community have been lax about bringing new material to the genre as well. How many zombie and vampire movies can be made before that well runs dry? Well, EXHUMED is something different, a film about the most malicious and evil creatures of all: human beings.”

The plot revolves around a bizarre family who are unable to venture outside their house, and the claustrophobia and tension eventually result in bloodshed. Sarah Nicklin, Michael Reed, Ruth Sullivan, Michael Thurber, Rich Tretheway, Jonathan Thomson and Debbie Rochon will star. Griffin and co. are currently raising production funds through the crowd-financing site Kickstarter; go here for details. Scorpio also has 2009: MUTANTS OF THE APOCALYPSE set to roll later this year; you can read about that one here.
