THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER has been in development for an awfully long time, but now a new director, and one with vampire experience at that, is coming aboard.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT, TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE) is looking to tackle the long-gestating film (written by Bagi Schut) about the titular ship that carried Count Dracula to London and the ghastly occurrences on board. Nothing is final, but the website writes that GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO phenomenon Noomi Rapace (seriously, girl is everywhere) and Sir Ben Kingsley are also attached.

DEMETER is still in the midst of raising its budget, so no word of production or release just yet.

I'm a total sucker for period piece horror stories, making me a total advocate for this film. Slade hasn't yet delivered on the promise of HARD CANDY, but let's hope he can saturate DEMETER with a ton of old fashioned atmosphere and dread. Now, if only someone would get a good adaptation of Mike Mignola's BALTIMORE off the ground.
