TRAILERS FROM HELL, the wonderful site created by GREMLINS’ Joe Dante that features a wide array of filmmakers, writers and critics providing commentary over classic genre movie trailers, has seen its first DVD release, THE BEST OF TRAILERS FROM HELL: VOLUME 1. Featuring the Trailers From Hell regulars, the DVD sees contributions from, of course, Dante (who can be seen prominently along with fellow trailers commentator John Landis in this summer’s AMERICAN GRINDHOUSE documentary) and a motley crew of directors who Fango fans’ ears should perk up at. Dante tells Fango, “We have over 400 trailers for all kinds of movies, but for our first DVD, we kept FANGORIA readers in mind and concentrated on SF/horror titles. I’ve been reading Fango since the beginning, and by now I think I know what they like.” The full list of titles presented is as follows:

Joe Dante: THE TINGLER, BLOOD AND ROSES, CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS

Mick Garris: RABID, THE VALLEY OF GWANGI, SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN and HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM

John Landis: CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF, GREEN SLIME, PRIVATE PARTS and MIGHTY JOE YOUNG

Eli Roth: SQUIRM, THE BIRDS, 3 ON A MEATHOOK and FORBIDDEN PLANET

Edgar Wright: CORRUPTION, THE SENTINEL, SILENT RUNNING and PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE

If that wasn’t enough to get you excited, in addition to the trailers, the DVD comes with two animated classics, Foster & Bailey’s THE HAUNTED SHIP (1930) and Ub Iwerks’ THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN (1934), plus a new transfer of Majestic Pictures’ THE VAMPIRE BAT (1933), starring horror greats Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray and Dwight Frye.
