Spanish director F. Javier Gutierrez (pictured) attracted attention a couple of years back with his apocalyptic serial-killer film BEFORE THE FALL (a.k.a. TRES DIAS), which IFC Films released Stateside. Now he’s got a pair of genre projects cooking in America.
Screen Daily reports that one of these will be a new film version of THE MONKEY’S PAW, which he’s currently rewriting from an original script by DRIVE ANGRY’s Todd Farmer. Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures had also recently been developing an adaptation of the W.W. Jacobs short story, in which a mother’s wish to see her dead son again via the titular totem has grisly results; this one will be produced by RKO Pictures. Gutierrez will also helm the alien-oriented thriller THE GREYS, scripted by Adam Cohen, for Radar Pictures, the folks who brought us PITCH BLACK and THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, and Furst Films, which co-produced DAYBREAKERS. “Both projects are at an advanced stage of development,” the director tells the trade; more details should be announced soon.
