BURKE AND HARE is John Landis’ long-awaited return to horror comedy. Shooting has wrapped on the picture, which stars SHAUN OF THE DEAD’s Simon Pegg and LORD OF THE RINGS’ Andy Serkis, as well as Isla Fisher, Tim Curry, John Cleese, Tom Wilkinson and AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON’s Jenny Agutter. And now, the first official image from the film has been released.

Empire got the exclusive photo, which shows Pegg and Serkis at work. The two essay the pair of notorious 19th-century grave robbers who killed a string of people in Edinburgh, Scotland and sold the bodies to an anatomy lecturer. The Burke and Hare murders were referenced in Robert Louis Stevenson’s short story “The Body Snatcher,” and have been the subject of several films, including the classic 1945 Val Lewton production THE BODY SNATCHER starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi (as one of his victims); 1959’s THE FLESH AND THE FIENDS (a.k.a. MANIA) with Peter Cushing; and the 1985 Mel Brooks(!) produced THE DOCTOR AND THE DEVILS, with the all star cast of Timothy Dalton, Stephen Rea, Julian Sands and Jonathan Pryce.
