Fango has learned that one of our favorite films from the festival beat, the Butcher Brothers’ THE VIOLENT KIND (see previous item here), has finally picked up a U.S. distributor. See below the jump to find out which company will be rolling out the potential sleeper later this year.
Written and directed by the team behind THE HAMILTONS and the disavowed APRIL FOOL’S DAY remake, THE VIOLENT KIND has been acquired by Image Entertainment for domestic release starting in March. The film will begin with limited theatrical bookings in a couple of U.S. cities at that time, followed by DVD/Blu-ray release; this is the latest notable new fright title to be acquired by Image, whose 2011 lineup also includes Hammer Films’ THE RESIDENT (see news here). THE VIOLENT KIND, which screened at both Sundance and Fantasia last year, is a bloody genre mashup involving bad-ass bikers, possession, time travel (!) and a grueling torture/hostage scenario. The movie stars Butcher Bros. regulars Cory Knauf, Joseph McKelheer, Samuel Child, Mackenzie Firgens and Taylor Cole, along with scream queen Tiffany Shepis, S. DARKO’s Bret Roberts and FANGORIA FrightFest players Nick Tagas of PIG HUNT and Joe Egender of HUNGER. Watch for a preview of THE VIOLENT KIND in an upcoming issue of FANGORIA and read Shepis’ comments on the film here on Thursday.
