Before his death in 2008, FX legend Stan Winston (pictured) had been developing a horror/action movie called SPEED DEMON, and now it’s getting back on the road to the screen.
Variety reports that Paradox Entertainment has optioned SPEED DEMON, which is about a mobster tracking a small-time criminal through the desert who discovers that he himself is being stalked by a mysterious monster. Winston had been working on the project with director Peter Winther and creature creator Patrick Tatopoulos, both of whom remain attached; Mike Sorrentino and Randy Vampotic wrote the script. “SPEED DEMON is more than a classic creature feature and has great merchandising potential, making it a perfect match for Paradox,” Fredrik Malmberg, who’ll produce the film, tells the trade. Winther’s directing credits include the popular TV movie THE LIBRARIAN: QUEST FOR THE SPEAR, and he was a producer on EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS, GODZILLA and other Roland Emmerich epics; Paradox is also developing new big-screen versions of CONAN and BUCK ROGERS.
