ALICE IN WONDERLAND’s Tim Burton will be directing another 3-D project: a stop-motion animated film of THE ADDAMS FAMILY inspired by Charles Addams’ original cartoons.

Deadline reports that Illumination Entertainment, the Universal-based family film unit headed by Chris Meledandri, recently acquired the rights to the Addams drawings. Meledandri will produce, but as of now, no writer is attached. The movie will be unrelated to the ’60s TV series, Barry Sonnenfeld’s films and the new Broadway musical now in previews starring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth. Burton is also attached to another’60s revamp, DARK SHADOWS, as well as producing a film version of Seth Grahame-Smith’s ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER (see item here).
