The competition at the FANGORIA FrightFest has officially ended, and below the jump you will learn which of the eight films (PIG HUNT, ROAD KILL, THE HAUNTING, FRAGILE, HUNGER, DARK HOUSE, GRIMM LOVE or THE TOMB) that earned the highest rating from your votes will be playing theaters later this month. And the winner is…
DARK HOUSE! The haunted-attraction flick, written and directed by Darin Scott (producer of TALES FROM THE HOOD, THE OFFSPRING and STEPFATHER II), stars horror vet Jeffrey Combs of RE-ANIMATOR fame. “Winning the FANGORIA FrightFest is one of the biggest, most exciting honors of my career because DARK HOUSE is being put into theaters by the votes of the fans,” Scott says. “This contest was filled with a lot of cool looking films. So to be chosen by the votes of the people we make our movies for is a total thrill. Thanks to everyone who voted!”
DARK HOUSE will play the following theaters from July 30 through August 5:

22 East 12th Street
New York City, NY

Landmark Theatres’ The Magnolia

In DARK HOUSE, a young acting troupe arrives at the titular haunted attraction to begin work, only to encounter real spooks and bloody violence after getting trapped inside. Combs plays colorful Walston Rey, builder of the haunt, whose showbiz ballyhoo echoes the style of gimmick impresario William Castle. The scream house boasts state-of-the-art holographic FX and also happens to be the site of a nasty children’s massacre from 14 years prior, committed by the demented Ms. Darrode (Diane Salinger from the REST STOP movies). DARK HOUSE co-stars rising actors Meghan Ory (DECOYS, VAMPIRE HIGH), Bevin Prince, Matt Cohen (SUPERNATURAL’s young John Winchester), Danso Gordon, Shelly Cole, REEKER’s Scott Whyte and Ryan Melander.
“Lightning Media is thrilled to announce the winner of our FANGORIA FrightFest competition,” says Rich Goldberg, co-president of Lightning Entertainment. “Our program, in which we worked with partners FANGORIA and Blockbuster, has been an unparalleled success, thanks to all the fans who took part by logging onto the FrightFest website and rated the trailers of our eight movies. Though we wish all eight films could have won, we send our congratulations to the makers of DARK HOUSE. We hope everyone in San Francisco, Texas and New York City runs to see DARK HOUSE on the big screen this month. All others can enjoy catching the FANGORIA FrightFest movies via Blockbuster’s various distribution outlets beginning August 6.”
“We are happy to see Darin Scott’s DARK HOUSE win the FANGORIA FrightFest, as Fango has followed his career in our pages for nearly 25 years,” says FANGORIA president Thomas DeFeo. “Darin is an extremely talented filmmaker, as are all the FrightFest directors. We thank all those who participated in the FANGORIA FrightFest and invite everyone to sample the movies when Blockbuster exclusively releases them this summer.”
