The competition at the FANGORIA FrightFest website has begun (go here to vote and decide which of our eight films will win a theatrical release), and one of the films seeking your vote is the haunted-attraction flick DARK HOUSE (see below the jump for some exclusive photos), written and directed by Darin Scott (producer of TALES FROM THE HOOD, THE OFFSPRING and STEPFATHER II) and starring horror vet Jeffrey Combs of RE-ANIMATOR fame.

In DARK HOUSE, a young acting troupe arrives at the titular haunted attraction to begin work, only to encounter real spooks and bloody violence after getting trapped inside. Combs plays colorful Walston Rey, builder of the haunt, whose showbiz ballyhoo echoes the style of gimmick impresario William Castle. The scream house boasts state-of-the-art holographic FX and also happens to be the site of a nasty children’s massacre from 14 years prior, committed by the demented Ms. Darrode (Diane Salinger from the REST STOP movies). DARK HOUSE co-stars rising actors DECOYS’ Meghan Ory, Bevin Prince, Matt Cohen (SUPERNATURAL’s young John Winchester), Danso Gordon, Shelly Cole, REEKER’s Scott Whyte and Ryan Melander.

Following a theatrical engagement in late July for the winning film, each Fango flick will be available through Blockbuster stores, Blockbuster By Mail, as well as digitally via Blockbuster On Demand beginning August 6 for a full 45 days before they’re ready for purchase or rental through other national retailers (via Phase 4 Films), digital downloads, VOD and home entertainment providers on September 28.

The entire movie series is currently previewed in the 30-minute special 8 FANGORIA FRIGHTS (available free on Time Warner, Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon FIOS and other cable systems; check with your provider), hosted by CABIN FEVER star Cerina Vincent and featuring interviews with many of the eight films’ directors, plus clips and featurettes. The program can be found by accessing your On Demand menu, where you will also find four free episodes of FANGORIA’s SCREAMOGRAPHY series (bios/interviews with horror greats Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Robert Englund and CHILD’S PLAY creator Don Mancini).
