Variety reports that the upcoming remake of THE THING (actually more of a prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter classic) has a couple of folks who bring some serious experience with deadly extraterrestrials on board.
Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. (pictured), the monster/makeup FX experts who head up Amalgamated Dynamics Inc. (ADI) and wrangled xenomorphs on the second through fourth ALIEN movies and the two ALIEN VS. PREDATOR flicks, will be doing the creature work for the new THING. Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. from a script by TV STAR TREK veteran Ronald D. Moore and the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET redux’s Eric Heisserer, the movie is set to roll March 15 in Toronto. Strike Entertainment, the company behind the DAWN OF THE DEAD update which also teamed with Eli Roth on the upcoming THE LAST EXORCISM, is producing the movie, which details what happened at the Norwegian research base in the Antarctic discovered by Kurt Russell and co. in the ’82 film. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton will star as a Ph.D. candidate who joins the group and a helicopter pilot, respectively, who try to stop the shapeshifting creature.
