In news that undoubtedly surprised no one, Summit Entertainment confirmed yesterday that BREAKING DAWN, the film version of Stephenie Meyer’s final novel in THE TWILIGHT SAGA, is going to be a double act.

Taking a cue from KILL BILL and the upcoming HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, BREAKING DAWN will be released as two separate films, with the first set to open November 18, 2011; no date has been announced for the second. Bill Condon is directing both “volumes,” with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and actors Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz all returning from the previous entries. Filming is set to begin this fall; the third film, ECLIPSE, opens June 30.

Speaking of release dates, Box Office Mojo reports that Dimension has moved Alexandre Aja's PIRANHA 3D up a week, from August 27 to August 20. That gets it out of the way of Lionsgate’s Eli Roth-produced chiller THE LAST EXORCISM and Magnolia’s release of Neil Marshall’s hardcore period actioner CENTURION. See the killer-fish flick’s official website (still bearing the 27th date) here and look for an exclusive set visit in Fango #296, on sale in early August.
