In the News Not Necessarily Worth Reporting Dept., a movie that recently turned up on this summer’s release schedule as UNTITLED VAMPIRE SPOOF now has a title. And it’s about what one would expect from the folks who brought us such deathless modern-comedy classics as MEET THE SPARTANS, DISASTER MOVIE and EPIC MOVIE.
Box Office Mojo revealed that the Fox parody of the TWILIGHT series (and, presumably, other recent box-office hits) is now known as…wait for it…VAMPIRES SUCK. We’ll find out just how much when the flick hits theaters August 18. Aside from a couple of actors listed on its IMDb page (including THE HANGOVER’s Ken Jeong, pictured), there’s not much more information out there right now about the movie, whose writer/directors, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, were among the many scripters of the original SCARY MOVIE, which got this whole trend rolling. They’ve watered down their act since then (VAMPIRES SUCK is rated PG-13) as they’ve rushed to cash in on whatever cinematic trend is hot at the moment; their latest will arrive in the wake of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Still, there is time for them to apply a less generic moniker. Might this writer suggest TWI HARD: SUCK HARDER?
