Breaking the alternating game of James Wong and David R. Ellis on the FINAL DESTINATION movies, New Line has recruited an outsider to the series to take the reins of the fifth installment, which will be the franchise’s second (after last year’s THE FINAL DESTINATION) in 3-D.
Variety reports that FINAL DESTINATION 5 will be directed by Steven Quale (pictured), who comes from a long association with James Cameron—beginning as a visual FX artist on TERMINATOR 2 and serving as 2nd-unit director on both TITANIC and AVATAR. He also helmed the 2002 TV movie SUPERFIRE and got dimensional experience co-directing the 2005 3-D IMAX documentary ALIENS OF THE DEEP with Cameron. Scripted by Eric Heisserer of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake and THE THING prequel, FINAL DESTINATION 5 is currently scheduled to land in theaters August 26, 2011.
