Of the many comic-book characters to have started on the path to the big screen, the hero of DC/Vertigo’s PREACHER has probably taken the most torturous path. Over the last decade, directors ranging from ROAD TO PERDITION’s Sam Mendes to FREDDY’S DEAD’s Rachel Talalay and actors like Dougray Scott and James Marsden have been attached to PREACHER features, and Howard Deutch was once set to direct a series pilot for HBO. Now, yet another filmmaker is eyeing the project.
Joe Carnahan, whose previous flicks include NARC and SMOKIN’ ACES and who has THE A-TEAM opening this Friday, tells SuperHeroHype that he’d love a crack at Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s saga of Jesse Dillon, a religious man imbued with supernatural powers who goes on a quest to confront God, accompanied by an old flame and an Irish vampire. “I’m kind of desperate to do another comic book adaptation,” he tells the site. “And [one] I’m really keen on or interested in is PREACHER, because I’m a big Garth Ennis fan and I love that series… You gotta do the Allfather [D’Aronique] and all that crazy shit and I haven’t seen a script and I don’t know what it is, but yeah, we’ll see. Who knows?” We’ll keep you posted on any further developments.
