A while back, it was announced that producer Edward R. Pressman (pictured) would be revisiting his previous hit THE CROW, rebooting the supernatural-revenge franchise with a new origin film. This morning he shared a few thoughts on the project, which will be directed by Stephen Norrington of BLADE and THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN.
Busy Relativity Media is backing the $70-million feature, and Pressman tells Screen Daily, “We are looking for a major actor in the lead. It’s a total reinvention, not like Alex Proyas’ [original] movie at all. Norrington has a very visual idea for the movie which is a reconceptualization of the CROW mythology and closer to James O’Barr’s original comic book than the first film. We are on course to shoot this fall.” Other genre projects on Pressman’s current slate are the Marilyn Manson/Evan Rachel Wood-starrer SPLATTER SISTERS (see item here) and an adaptation of Rachel Klein’s Gothic novel THE MOTH DIARIES, set in a private girls’ school. That film reunites Pressman with AMERICAN PSYCHO director Mary Harron and stars Lily Cole, Sarah Bolger and THE STRANGERS/UNDERWORLD’s Scott Speedman, and films in Montreal this summer.
