Most hardcore horror fans, and zombie fans in particular, have envisioned the scenario. You know, the one in which the dead rise up and everything turns to crap. You imagine how it might go down…what you might do…what it would take to survive. It’s a fascinating topic, and one of which we zombie freaks never seem to tire. And thanks to the ingenious work of Lance Meyer, we can have a little bit of help envisioning the flesheating apocalypse.

Artist Matt Gondek (pictured) has been designing neon googly-eyed monsters for bands, companies and clothing brands for five years now, and at 28, he is already co-owner of a clothing brand (Wonderful Life). Drawing and designing have always been part of Gondek’s life; from the moment he could hold a pencil, he would draw comic book characters and monsters from movies. As he got older, his work progressed with him, and his current career began to germinate as he made the transition from pen and paper into the digital world. 
Metal music and horror movies often go hand in hand and share a rabid fan base, with the central themes of violence and bloodshed coursing through the lyrics in song and images in film. Music videos by metal bands regularly depict frantic compulsions, scenes of doom and feelings of unrestrained terror—the same things fright films do on a lengthier scale. The two forms came together when long-standing Bay Area thrash-metal band Death Angel teamed with director Robert Sexton on the video for their song “Truce”—a clip that holds special meaning for Sexton, as it uses elements from the horror screenplay SLEEP NO MORE that he wrote with Fango’s own Jack Bennett. Essentially, the video (which you can watch on this site’s front page; see behind-the-scenes pics after the jump) is based on the opening scene of the as-yet unproduced film.

Three years after creating the score (as well as acting as assistant direcror) on CREEPSHOW for George A. Romero, John Harrison would once again team up with the ringmaster of the unearthed in 1985 on DAY OF THE DEAD. In addition to again helping with directorial duties, Harrison was asked to revisit his role as composer on the third in the by-then-legendary DEAD series.
Last year, the entertainment industry lost a giant to a hard-fought battle with Crohn’s disease: Daniel Thomas O’Bannon, who died at only 63. Though not as well-known as some of his peers, Dan was deeply influential in the science fiction and horror genres, and the recent VCI release of his debut feature DARK STAR on a special new Hyperdrive Edition DVD is just one testament to his many talents.
In the red annals of horror literature, perhaps no other property has been pillaged more than Bram Stoker’s DRACULA, the undisputed grandfather of vampire fiction. With the rights long lapsed into the grey area of quasi-public domain, it seems everyone and their brother has taking a sharp wooden stab at exploiting the exploits of the regal fanged one; certainly, Dracula remains pop culture’s most recognized bogeyman.
Gareth Edwards (pictured left) isn’t the first special FX artist to turn director, but the story behind his debut feature MONSTERS is certainly unique. Rather than pursue the helm of a big-budget studio feature for his first time out, Edwards adopted a DIY approach, shooting MONSTERS with a tiny crew and two lead actors on south-of-the-border locations, drafting local residents as supporting cast, and then later applying his digital wizardry to the footage.
