When Syfy’s hit makeup-competition series FACE OFF returns this week, the judges won’t be the only veteran artists taking part. From green light to release, the average film takes two to three years, but the zombie action feature WAR OF THE DEAD’s production started in way back in 2005. In my 2011 best-of list, I discussed how it had not been a banner year for horror; I was especially critical of the studio releases. That year, I sought solace in TV shows to feed my genre lust, and my list was peppered with horror titles like DEXTER, THE WALKING DEAD, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, GRIMM and UGLY AMERICANS. This year, however, I was happy to find some stellar titles lurking in the feature world, a big improvement over 2011.

With a sharp eye for both gore and pin-point satire, Rahner is going to be the man to watch. He recently sat down with Fango (over some delicious tater-tots) and shared his thoughts about his work and career.
