DEADLIGHT, the upcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade title from developer Tequila Works, sees protagonist Randall Wayne desperate to both survive the zombie apocalypse and find his missing family. The game combines entertaining gameplay and dreary art design that seems inspired by fantastic releases such as LIMBO, with true survival horror elements that challenge you to narrowly escape every encounter with the undead (with limited health, weapons and ammunition to assist you in combat). Supported by a great storyline full of diverse characters, strong voice acting and an excellent score, DEADLIGHT is the best Summer of Arcade title this year.

Sam Hulick is a BAFTA award-nominated and multiple award-winning composer best known for composing the signature music for BioWare’s epic sci-fi franchise MASS EFFECT, and the dramatic score for Tripwire Interactive’s groundbreaking RED ORCHESTRA 2: HEROES OF STALINGRAD. FANGORIA recently set down with Hulick to discuss the MASS EFFECT series, which just released its highly anticipated MASS EFFECT 3: EARTH DLC on July 17th.

If the online buzz didn’t confirm the hype, then the sold-out crowd at the Toronto After Dark Summer Screenings certainly did. The packed house was full of anticipation for a film whose intense trailer and anthology angle has made it an official Big Deal in the horror scene. Following the crowd-pleasing JUAN OF THE DEAD (my review here) in the double bill presented by the Toronto After Dark Summer Screenings was THE PACT. With a confident hand on the wheel, director Nicholas McCarthy weaves together a complex and pleasingly modern take on the classic haunted house tale. Like any older house on the market, there are problems – the wiring doesn’t always connect, one burner is always out on the stove and someone’s tipsy uncle did the uneven tile in the bathroom—but despite the minor flaws the foundation is solid.

Another week has passed in the world of horror, and I’m freshly back from a bit of a weekend away so let’s get right down to it mutants. Here is what’s happening out there:

Zombie games have infected and devoured their way through all platforms. Their popularity and demand have never been higher, and as a gamer and horror fan, it is a trend I'm happy to see. Last month alone saw at least three major zombie releases, including young Juliet Starling's wacky adventure in LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW, and now, two new downloadable titles ―ZOMBIE HQ for iOS and THE WALKING DEAD EPISODE 2: STARVED FOR HELP.
