In this second portion of my interview with the CREATURE FROM THE PINK LAGOON star, we talk about his experiences on the CREATURES set, including the importance of cinnamon gum when kissing a straight guy.

After interviewing Chris Diani, the writer/director of CREATURES FROM THE PINK LAGOON (get the links here), I knew I needed to speak to one of the film’s cast as well. So I set all journalistic ethics aside and picked the cutest guy from the ensemble, Vincent Kovar. (Cue angry e-mails from the rest of the actors…)

When the gay-themed slasher film HELLBENT took a stab at a theatrical run, gay horror suddenly became the next wave of queer cinema. A handful of films got a lot of press around the same time (2005-2006), and one of them was CREATURES FROM THE PINK LAGOON, made by Seattle filmmaker Chris Diani.

Mention Joe Gage to any gay man of a certain age, and the response will be something along the lines of “L.A. TOOL & DIE is the best gay porn film…ever.” But unless they’re checking Gage’s IMDb credits, they probably don’t realize he also directed a handful of direct-to-video horror/sci-fi films in the ’80s under the name Tim Kincaid, including MUTANT HUNT and ROBOT HOLOCAUST.

If you’re a gay horror fan and you haven’t heard of Michael Simon’s romantic comedy GAY ZOMBIE, you’re just not paying attention. Having screened in almost every gay and/or genre film festival in the U.S. and abroad, as well as being omnipresent on Logo, GAY ZOMBIE is a well-made horror short that refuses to die.
