Up-and-coming British director Johnny Kevorkian, who recently made his feature debut with the superior ghost story THE DISAPPEARED (pictured; see our review here), gave us the scoop about his next fright flick. Titled SLEEP THIEF, it’s currently targeted to begin shooting in early 2009.

“It’s about a man who begins to deteriorate physically and mentally thanks to his lack of slumber,” Kevorkian tells Fango. “His life is literally being sucked away. I can tell you that this will be a haunting horror film that’s very Gothic in its style.”
Unlike THE DISAPPEARED, the filmmaker says, SLEEP THIEF will boast well-known actors in order to help boost its international profile. “This is a bigger-budgeted picture than THE DISAPPEARED,” he notes. “And, yes, we are looking for some name cast. SLEEP THIEF, because it is going to cost more, has to appeal to an American audience. I would also say that this is a more clear-cut horror film than THE DISAPPEARED. But it’s not a slasher flick or anything like that. I can describe the approach as being more in the style of Cronenberg.” Stay tuned to Fango for further updates.
