INFESTATION and lots more Sci Fi/Syfy movie airdates

INFESTATIONSCIFITHUMBFango has learned that INFESTATION, the killer-bug movie from writer/director Kyle Rankin (of PROJECT GREENLIGHT and the highly regarded HELLHOLES quartet of Atomfilms on-line shorts) will have its premiere this summer on the Sci Fi Channel (to be redubbed Syfy as of next month). In fact, a whole slew of debut dates for assorted Sci Fi/Syfy flicks have come to our attention, guaranteeing a fun summer for creature-feature fans.

INFESTATION, in which a young man (Chris Marquette) wakes up in his office to find the world overrun by oversized insects and joins a small group of survivors to defeat the invaders, airs Saturday, August 8 at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. For more on the movie, check out its official website here. More creepy-crawlers emerge in SAND SERPENTS, directed by PARANOIA 1.0’s Jeff Renfroe, in which U.S. soldiers fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan come up against an even deadlier enemy: enormous worms that tunnel under the sand and emerge to consume human prey. Jason Gedrick stars; this one’s coming Saturday, July 11 at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m., with an encore showing Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. You can see the SAND SERPENTS trailer at the bottom of this page.

Sunday, July 19 at 9 p.m. sees the premiere of HELLHOUNDS, which attracted a certain amount of attention when it went into production for being directed by longtime TV actor Rick Schroder. Set in ancient Greece, it follows a warrior as he descends into Hades to rescue his poisoned bride, and has to tangle with the dogs of hell along the way. Then it’s just a six-day wait for MALIBU SHARK ATTACK (see our previous item here), showing Saturday, July 25 at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. and also Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. On both nights, it’s part of aquatic-creature marathons—which on the 29th also includes the broadcast premiere of the notorious recent DVD release MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS (see our review here and our chat with director Jack Perez, a.k.a. Ace Hannah, here) at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, get ready for FAST & FEROCIOUS at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.; we have no idea what this is, but we’re very interested to find out. Finally, HIGH PLAINS INVADERS, from another actor/director, Kristoffer Tabori, debuts Sunday, Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL veteran James Marsters stars as an Old West outlaw whose hanging is conveniently interrupted by—bringing things full circle here—an assault by oversized alien insects, leading him to become a reluctant hero.

Yes, I can't wait for the rebranding! No longer will the network have to pretend they have anything to do with science fiction, and we'll never have to watch trash like Battlestar Galactica or Farscape ever again. Bring on TV Movies directed by Ricky Shroder!
