Writer/director/actor Joe Davison got in touch with an update and a few exclusive photos (which you can see below) from his new feature EXPERIMENT 7, which we previously reported on here and is currently lensing in the Tampa, Florida area. The saga of scientists and survivalists vs. mutants in a postapocalyptic world reteams him with numerous collaborators from his previous 100 TEARS, as well as his FEARMAKERS and BEAST co-star Timo Rose.“The shoot is going well,” Davison tells us. “Candice Rojas, who plays the heroine Aco, is getting quite a workout having to do full-on fights and stunts and fire AK-47s, hand pistols and a rocket launcher or sorts. She told me, ‘I’m excited! I called my mom after I fired the AK for the first time,’ after what we have dubbed ‘the extraction scene.’
“Chanse Chanthalansy, our visual effects director, spent two days rigging greenscreen for a massive explosion that rips mutants apart,” he continues. “That was a really cool experience, since I’ve never worked with greenscreen to that capacity before. We have a few key digital elements in the film, like a GPS map that is handheld and rolls out like a scroll, designed by Melanie Dean.”
The cast also includes Rod Grant, Raine Brown, Jack Amos, Dwight Cenac and fellow indie frightmeister Alan Rowe Kelly. “The chemistry that Dwight and myself have as the Sam and William characters brings a nice twist to the movie,” Davison says. “It’s a real blast having someone like Dwight on set to take the pressure off a little with all his on-set hijinx.” Part of the challenge was coming up with a design for the movie’s deformed antagonists. “It was tough to figure out the look of the mutants,” Davison notes. “I didn’t want to go way over the top with huge disfigurements, and I didn’t want to downplay them, like in a zombie film. I hope we’ve found the right medium. In the end, I guess the audience will let me know either way. I’m ready for an ass-beating; I just ask that they don’t kick me too much.”
Several weeks of filming have yet to come, along with extra scenes to be shot in New York City by Kelly and Germany by Rose, but Davison says, “The trailer will be on its way before you know it.” You can check out a bunch of additional new photos and other info at EXPERIMENT 7’s MySpace page and see the official website of Davison’s Pop Gun Pictures here.

I really enjoyed being a part (a teeny-bitty part) of the movie Experiment 7. The entire production team is very creative and all of the actors are awesome.
Looking forward to seeing the movie when it is released and hope to participate in future Joe Davison creations.
