Jared Padalecki talks his future with SUPERNATURAL and FRIDAY THE 13TH

News - Film News

While no doubt celebrating the record-breaking box office of the new FRIDAY THE 13TH (pictured) in which he stars—an estimated $42.2 million for its first three days and potentially $50 million for the four-day weekend—Jared Padalecki is also enthusiastic about the rest of his fourth season as Sam Winchester on SUPERNATURAL. The actor gave Fango a few hints about what to expect in the coming weeks of the CW series.

padaleckisupernatfridaynews“We’re delving a lot deeper into the Angel thing with Dean [MY BLOODY VALENTINE’s Jensen Ackles], finding out why the angels are after them and why the demons want him,” Padalelcki tells us. “We’ll also be figuring out why Sam is turning dark, and see him go a little darker. We’ll get to worry about Sam a little bit, which is nice, because it’s always like, ‘Sammy, he’s a good guy, don’t worry about him.’ So now the tables are turning, which is real nice to play.”

But how long will Sam steer toward the dark side? Padalecki is hoping it’s a lot longer than you would expect.“Hopefully, for the duration of the show, I’ll get to explore the bad parts of Sam,” he says. “Maybe there’ll be some redemption at the end, but I would love to go Vader.”

Appropriately enough, Padalecki reveals, SUPERNATURAL’s producers were trying to work FRIDAY THE 13TH’s Jason into the show last year, which ultimately didn’t happen—despite Padalecki being cast in the new movie. “I believe it fell apart for trademarking reasons,” the actor says. “[It was] all the clearances you have to go through to use the name Jason. Then they wanted to do a killer in the woods—make him someone like Jason without calling him that. Ultimately it boiled down to, they couldn’t find a way to put it into SUPERNATURAL’s story, whether I was doing FRIDAY THE 13TH or not.” He adds that going two different rounds against Jason might have been intriguing: “It would have been really weird, to see if I could beat him in one and lose to him in the other or beat him in both or lose to him in both,” Padalecki says. “Ultimately, I’m glad my experience with Jason was not on the series. Whereas SUPERNATURAL is my show, I’d rather be [a guest] in Jason’s show. Jason is the bossman.”

As for whether he’ll return for a future FRIDAY adventure, Padalecki reveals that he didn’t sign up for an option for a second tour of bloody duty. “I believe they tried to, but then we were like, ‘Well, you’re not going to make another [movie], and if you do, let’s figure it out from there,’ ” he says. “Because I wouldn’t want to come back as the hero. I would love to have one scene and die, and they wouldn’t want to option someone to return just to get killed. Still, if they did a sequel, I would love to be a part of it. I had a great time working with those guys; I just wouldn’t want to headline it again. I’ve told this story of Clay, it was fun and I don’t need to tell it again.”

I would like to see Padelecki come back as Clay. I think the story of Clay wasn't fully explained that well. The movie seemed rushed after the first few minutes. I think Padelecki should come back as the main hero type guy. The guy that is like Tommy Jarvis, the guy who is a nemesis to Jason. But its what ever Padelecki wants.

I loved Jared Padalecki in this movie. I'm a huge Supernatural fan and also a Friday the 13th fan. So seeing Jared in this movie was an added bonus. I hate that Jared feels this way about coming back for another Friday the 13th movie. Because I really enjoyed this one. I was hoping Him and Jensen Ackles could play the hero's in the next Friday the 13th film. And kill Jason Togather. But I don't want to see Jared Die. What's the point of being killed off if you survive Jason the first time. I'd rather him just not do another Friday film if he's just going to die. It's repeating what happened to Adrienne King ( Alice ) From Friday the 13th part one. Jared we love you, I hope you reconsider. And not Die!

I can undersatnd Jared's reasoning for both not being anxious to do another F13. Let's face it, he's a young actor...on a paranormal show....and a lot of his major films have been in the horror suspense genre. So he really don't want to get pigon-toed as 'that Friday The 13th remake guy'.

As for SuperNatural...I had started out the series as a 'Dean chick', but have morphed in to an equal Dean/Sam girl. I think Jared and Jensen really bounce off one another creativly really well. As far as the storyline goes....I'd hate for Sam to go to the dark side for forever...but wouldn't mind seeing some nasty coming from him.

And as an actor, you always want to play the bad guy. That's the real meaty roles! No matter what, I wish Jared all the success in the world, and hope they keep SN around for a few more seasons.

I'd hate to see Jared in only the first 10 minutes of the next film, just to be killed off. What a waste. He's the reason I went to this movie! Twice so far!

As for Sam Winchester, the show is hard enough to watch now, what with Saint Dean always having to be right about everything. If Sam became the villain, I'd barely make it through the episodes. I wouldn't mind if there was a short arc that Sam could be redeemed from. But if Sam is not a hero, I never would have bothered with this show in the first place. I'm sure Jared would do a great job, but I couldn't bear the show, or the fandom, if they turned Sam evil for real and for the duration.

Too bad Jared feels this way, I could have easily gone to see another F13th if he was to be in it. As for Sammy in Supernatural, all I can say is that I cannot wait to see where he's heading. Jared seems to be so enthousiastic about playing a darker Sam, so that means that his performance will be awesome (as always!)! Ooooh I cannot wait until March 12th!!!

I was just saying that Clay should come back as the new Tommy Jarvis type character. I bet if the script was good enough he would come back for that type of role in a second. and money too lol

Shame Jared feels that way as he reminded me a lot of Tommy Jarvis in part vi(Jason Lives)and feel that the character of Clay could be explored in the same way as a sort of nemesis to Jason.
