One of the most-wanted classic horror films on DVD finally makes its U.S. disc debut as Shout! Factory brings Joseph Ruben’s 1987 psychochiller THE STEPFATHER to disc this fall. The company gave Fango the first word about the content and also a look at the cover art, which you can see below.
Starring Terry O’Quinn in a career-launching role as a man obsessed with heading the perfect family who marries into fatherless families—only to kill them when they don’t live up to his standards, THE STEPFATHER will street October 13 to tie in to the theatrical release of the remake (see the rather unpromising trailer for that movie here). The DVD will feature a new high-definition widescreen transfer and include a number of special features, including audio commentary by and interviews with producer Jay Benson and actress Jill Schoelen (who plays the villain’s suspicious stepdaughter), plus more to be announced. Retail price is $19.99; stay tuned for the full content details.

Jill Schoelen doing commentary? It is so good to see her back.
She was someone you could root for in every one of her films, to finally
outwit the killer. Having starred with Terry O Quinn, Kelly Jo Minter, Robert Englund....she's been with the greats!

I can't wait for this! With Synapse Film's DVD release of STEPFATHER 2 in September, and this in October, the Halloween season is gonna rock for DVDs this year. And, oh yeah, NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, too...

Awesome news! We have been waiting years for this! It will be great to see Jill in the interview/commentary since we haven't seen her in anything for a long time. I loved her in When a Stranger Calls Back. My other wish is to get the underrated slasher flick Curtains on a R1 DVD release. And a re-issue of Happy Birthday to Me with the scored music and special features as well. Word is that it is being remade in 3-D like My Bloody Valentine so like other remakes, at least it will give the original a deluxe DVD treatment :-) Shout Factory has been a saving grace for getting a lot of tv shows and films onto DVD that the bigger companies won't bother with. Thank you Shout! How about releasing the other seasons of Mama's Family since Warner is lagging.

Wow that is sad that it took a remake of this great cult film in order for them to release it in the US. I guess in the end its all really about the money and not the fan.

I second slasher steve's feelings about these recent remakes: The only good that comes from them are new dvd release and special features!

What an awesome cover.Im glad they decided to go with the original one sheet poster art for the dvd cover.I cant wait for this release. This and the night of the creeps dvd are by far the best releases so far this year along with phantasm 2.I just hope universal will decide to keep the original poster art for their release as well.I guess the only good thing about all these remakes is that the originals are finally getting their due on dvd.
