Don May Jr. of Synapse Films got in touch with a big update on what the genre-centric DVD company has in store for the rest of 2009, and gave Fango the first look at the cover art for its upcoming SICK GIRL disc (see it below). The biggest announcement is a new edition of the slasher sequel STEPFATHER 2, in which Terry O’Quinn (pictured) reprised his role as the ultimate bad dad.
Also coming on the 29th is 42ND STREET FOREVER VOLUME 5, the latest in Synapse’s popular series of exploitation trailer compilations. “This one’s subtitled THE ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE EXPERIENCE,” May says. “Those guys provided the trailers and will be doing an audio commentary for the disc.” Additionally in the works is a Blu-ray double-feature reissue of the first two 42ND STREET FOREVER collections, with brand-new commentary by yours truly, horror historian Chris Poggiali and AVManiacs.com’s Edwin Samuelson, reuniting from VOLUMEs 3 and 4.
Meanwhile, the street dates for the seriously weird Argentinean black comedy ANIMALADA (which we first discussed here) and Synapse’s disc of Eben McGarr’s SICK GIRL (see item here) have been flip-flopped. ANIMALADA will now come out July 28, and SICK GIRL will hit August 25. May reveals what to expect from the latter: “The plan is to present the film in anamorphic, with the trailer, the teaser, a SICK GIRL PSA that’s pretty funny, a Death by DVD featurette with lead actress Leslie Andrews, an outtakes-and-bloopers music-video reel and an interview with [co-star] Stephen Geoffreys.”
