Jackie Earle Haley signed for three NIGHTMARES

Jackie Earle HaleyIt seems the updates from the Chicago set of the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET reboot come in waves.

Bloody-Disgusting, who actually host Platinum Dunes' Official Blog have revealed that the new Freddy Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley has signed on for THREE films in the new NIGHTMARE series.

As reported last week, Rooney Mara has already been locked in for two 'rounds as Nancy.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (2010) will continue lensing in the Chicago area for just a little while longer, and is set for an April 2010 release. The film stars Jackie Earle Haley (WATCHMEN, BAD NEWS BEARS) in the role of Freddy Krueger, taking over the glove from Robert Englund.  The genre-centric cast also includes Kellan Lutz (THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON,) Rooney Mara (URBAN LEGENDS: BLOODY MARY), Kyle Gallner (JENNIFER's BODY), Thomas Dekker (LAID TO REST, SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES), Katie Cassidy, (TAKEN, SUPERNATURAL), Clancy Brown (THE BURROWERS), and Connie Britton. Samuel Bayer is at the helm, from a screenplay by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer, based on the original story by Wes Craven.

Okay I just wanna say to all of you who are like "Not Robert englund , man this will suck" if robert englund himself thinks jackie earle haley can do it then maybe you should have a little faith, Granted the past remakes to the classics havent been....worthwhile, but sometimes certain stories have to be "remade" for the younger generations to see how we saw them (excluding the Psycho remake it truly sucked)

Example: My little girl watched the original Nightmare on Elm street and the first time she saw Freddy she laughed cause he looked funny. When I was her age it scared the $@%& ot of me. Now I laughed at the remake of Friday the 13th cause it looked cheesy while she covered her eyes and asked me to turn it off. The remakes are in fact for the younger generations to appreciate them as we appreciated the originals. I look forward to the Nightmare remake just to see what Jackie Earle Haley can do with the character.

I'm a massive NOES fan and was unsure about a remake, however having recently watched the original movie's again I think its safe to say that the special affects are terrible, with today's technology and Jackie Earle Haley having a crack at Freddy I think the revamp may stand a real good chance. :drunk:

Remakes have been pumped out to us by the bucket for years. Some good, some bad. I thought i'd slit my wrist when I heard of an NOES remake until hearing that Jackie was fronting. It's a good start.
Picture anyone in the business that could pull off a Freddy, then take two sleeping pills and wake up to the only possible man for the job besides Englund. A new nightmare could come true...
I would like to know what Robert Englund thinks.

@damien: They didn't have to get Wes Craven's consent cos he sold the rights to the movie to get the first one made. It was actually mentioned in the interview posted here on Fangoria.

@robert: Um, its Freddy Kruger... he DOESN'T die... ever. Not much of a spoiler there.

Bottom line, don't like the idea, don't watch it. That's the way to get the movie makers attention.

Why is everyone so upset about these remakes? I don't understand. The originals are there. We will have them forever. These remakes are simply a new generations look at classic horror. I have been pleasantly suprised by both the Halloween AND Friday te 13th remakes. Yes, the originals are better but what's wrong with seeing it from a different point of view? If this means that my favorite franchises will be able to continue to thrive, I'm all for it. I for one am excited about this new NOES and can't wait to see what they do with it

I heard ROBERT ENGLUND couldn't play Freddy in the new movie because he's starring in the remake of DAMNATION ALLEY.

    Just kidding.

I am an avid watcher of all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. I own them in VHS and DVD. Even though I am still uncertain in how this movie will go without Englund, I am willing to give the movie a try. We cant knock the movie without even seeing what it is all about. I think that is how people should look at it a new a fresh look at something that we have wanted more from for years.

'Zombie' is right, this movie was doomed from the start, a. it's a remake, b. it doesn't have robert englund as freddy, and they didn't even ask for any sort of consent from wes craven the reason they've even got any shot at this movie. DOOCHEBAGS MAN!
