He taught you to tie your shoes and ride a bike, and now he’s chasing you around the house with an axe. Such is fatherhood.
In celebration of Father’s Day, we have gathered our top ten favorite horror movies dads. Without further adieu-
10- Vincent Cassel as Joseph in SHEITAN (2006)
While at the Club Styxx on Christmas Eve, a group of kids run into a shepherd named Joseph and his pregnant wife. But something is peculiar about this sinister dad-to-be and it isn’t just the sting of symbolism slapping you in the face.
9- Jim Siedow as the Old Man in THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)
This twisted gourmet father is a well simmered blend of Emeril Lagasse and Jeffery Dahmer, with a dash of that redneck “squeal like a pig guy” from Deliverance. Bake at 350 and lets put an apple in that pretty mouth of yours.
8-Brad Dourif as Chucky in SEED OF CHUCKY (2004)
Chucky’s son is a real doll (no not that type of Real Doll, you sicko). Glen/Glenda may not come with kung-fu grip, but he/she is the first outwardly homosexual horror movie monster. Barbie and Ken severed heads sold separately.
7-James Whitworth as Jupiter in THE HILLS HAVE EYES (1977)
Papa Jupiter taught lil’ Mars, Mercury, and Pluto the ways of savage cannibalism. There is some controversy over whether or not Pluto is actually a real sun upsetting school children everywhere.
6- Robert Carlyle as Don in 28 WEEKS LATER (2007)
Poor Don. He is pulled from his nice family dinner and surrounded by rage-induced zombies. This forces him to answer a moral question- if bloody vomiting, twitchy zombies begin chasing you, do you stay and protect your family or just run like hell? Finally a father figure every guy can empathize with.
5-Oliver Smith as Frank Cotton in HELLRAISER (1987)
No, Pinhead’s not birthing a little thumbtack face. It’s Uncle Frank, who killed Kirsty’s father to steal his skin and wife. A generation of horror fans will always get a chill when they hear the line “Come to Daddy”.
4- Everett McGill as Dad in PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS (1991)
Not only does dear old dad stuff his kids down in the cellar after cutting out their tongues, but I’m pretty sure he forced them to untangle those Christmas tree lights and clean out the rat traps while they were down there.
3-Terry O'Quinn as Jerry Blake in THE STEPFATHER (1987)
“Son, we need to have a talk about you not cleaning your room. Let’s head down to the cellar for this one. And could you bring the shovel?”
2- Jon Lormer as Nathan Grantham in CREEPSHOW (1982)
And all these years I have just been giving my dad a crappy tie! Who knew there was such a thing as a Father’s Day cake?
1-Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance in THE SHINING (1980)
Jack Nicholson portrays a loving yet stern father figure who strongly believes sparing the axe really can spoil the child. So what if he’s a little cranky? He did buy little Danny that bitchin’ big wheel.
Did we miss one? Is your fave father not on the list? Let us know in the comments below…

I should have thought of this to put in my previous post, but such is life....
You should have included Sid Haig from House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects. He did, after all turn out to be Baby's father. The part where he gets in the car with the little kid and says "If you can't come up with one reason why you don't like clowns I'm going to kill your whole f***ing family" (or something like that) is great!

Frank Cotton wasn't a father, either. He was the brother/uncle. You probably mean Andrew Robinson as Larry.

Nice. A list with the two best actors ever...Vincent Cassel and Robert Carlyle. And both on here for solid performances.

Good catch Robsuralis! Myself and another Fangoria staffer had to go look this up! Nice one. You are a true fan. And for father's day tribute sake- we'll put grandpa in "old man's" place. He was after all the most disturbing of the bunch!

"9- Jim Siedow as the Old Man in THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)" was not a dad. He was the brother of the Hitchhiker & Leatherface.

There's also George Lutz from The Amityville Horror. Great list by the way. Everybody loves The Stepfather or The Old Man!
